President’s Perspective
May 2012

So much is happening in the Catholic Church today it’s difficult to choose a topic. Recently I watched a DVD of a webcast entitled “Christ, Cosmology and Consciousness” delivered by Fr. Richard Rohr in May of 2010.

Fr. Rohr talked about our tendency, at times, to over think ideas which may be better incorporated into our lives through prayer and contemplation. He spoke about our church’s history of reform and progress followed by “pull backs” (attempts to put the toothpaste back in the tube).

Our current hierarchy’s responses to Vatican II reforms are reflected in new Mass language (compliments of Rome), the insistence that we may not even speak about ordaining women and, of course, the assault on the LCWR, those women who dare to minister to those alienated by the church.

Fr. Rohr explained that in a time of reaction to progress a new church emerges which may be quite different from what was there beforehand. Perhaps our “emerging” church will embrace the gifts of All of God’s Children with laity, both men and women, taking responsibility for their continued spiritual growth. What role is each of us willing to accept in this emerging church? We cannot let this moment pass! Take the time to put voice to your concerns through letters and demonstrations.

You may want to join us, Saturday, May 26, at 9:00 AM outside The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 9844 Woodward Avenue in Detroit where CTA-MI will hold a silent demonstration appealing for women to be given equal recognition by our church. -- Jeannine Daly, President CTA MI

Call to Action is a national Catholic Church reform movement to advocates for reforms in the Catholic Church such as the ordination of women, optional celibacy for priests, more focus on the Church's social justice teaching, and consultation with the Catholic people on Church decision-making and human sexuality issues.   For more information on CTA's vision and goals see CTA-USA , the national organization.
