Lansing Area CTA News

We meet on the third Thursday of each month at the Lansing Coffee Jam, a wonderful coffee shop owned by one of our members. Here are some of the topics we have covered in the first months of 2011.

For our January meeting we listened to Sr. Joan Chittister's presentation from last year's CTA-National conference in Milwaukee and then two of our members facilitated a discussion session on what we had heard. In February, one of our members brought along a friend from our local Hispanic parish to discuss current U.S. immigration policy and what is being proposed for the future.  It was an enlightening evening. In March, we had a small group gather for an American Catholic Council listening session which led to a lively discussion about our Catholic church and its current direction.

In April the third Thursday falls on Holy Thursday.  There are two activities planned for this day.  Some of our group will be holding a prayerful demonstration at the Mass of the Chrism in Lansing in support of Fr. Roy Bourgeois, the Maryknoll priest who spoke to us at our state conference in September, 2010.  Fr. Roy is now being threatened with dismissal as a priest from the Maryknoll order because of his support for Women's Ordination.

Our other event of the day is to share a meal together as Jesus did with his disciples on that first Holy Thursday evening.   We will gather to eat, pray and share our stories. We invite anyone living in the Lansing area to join us on any future Third Thursday evening of the month. --Karen Schrauben, kroses@comcast.net
